December 15th, 2020 -- First vaccines arrive in Oregon
The first Corona Virus Vaccines, from Pfizer BioNTech, have arrived in Oregon! While this development certainly marks the light at the end of the tunnel, it is important to remember that this is only the beginning of the end of this challenging time.
Oregon received 35,000 doses of vaccine, with healthcare workers and residents of long-term care facilities receiving the first doses. Oregon's Plan { Find information on the vaccine in Oregon here } calls for a phased approach to vaccination, starting with those most at risk, and working towards a more generalized approach to vaccinations.
It is important to keep in mind that even though vaccines are beginning to be administered, Covid-19 is still having a large impact on our City, our County, and our State. Columbia County still remains at "Extreme Risk", and test rates and positivity rates continue to rise. Yesterday our Nation passed a somber marker: 300,000 Americans have died from Covid-19, and the current spike has approximately 3,000 people dying every day. As vaccination gets underway and our community gets vaccinated, remember to keep everyone safe this holiday season by not letting down your guard. Remain vigilant, and we will all get through this together.
