Sidewalk Repair Program Information

City of Scappoose Sidewalk Repair Program

There are numerous areas in the City of Scappoose where existing sidewalk deterioration has resulted in trip hazards, impassable pedestrian paths, or are at the end of their useful life cycle. Sidewalks provide mobility for pedestrians, providing connection to schools, parks, and retail. Scappoose Municipal Code Chapter 12.04 states that the owner(s) of land adjoining any street in the city shall be responsible for maintaining and repairing sidewalks when they are present.  Furthermore, the owner(s) are liable for any and all damages to any person who is injured or otherwise suffers damage resulting from the defective or hazardous condition.

To help residents offset the cost of sidewalk repair, the City has initiated a new program to help cover 50% or up to $1,000 of the cost of repairs, whichever is less,  as long as the repairs pass inspection and are satisfactory to the City.

This program is based on available funds and are therefore provided on a first come, first served basis.

To be considered for the program, please complete and submit the Sidewalk Repair Program Application. For more information, please contact City of Scappoose Public Works at 503-543-7146, option 6.
